The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has launched an ambitious global healthcare initiative to build 10 hospitals in various countries, expanding access to quality medical care. This ground-breaking Global Hospitals Program demonstrates the UAE’s commitment to improving global health standards and addressing critical healthcare needs, particularly in under-served regions.
Expanding Access to Healthcare
Managed by the International Humanitarian and Philanthropic Council, the project aims to address healthcare gaps and support sustainable development.
A significant financial investment of approximately US$150 million (AED550 million) will be allocated over the next decade to construct up to 10 hospitals. The initiative aligns with the UAE’s humanitarian efforts and its role as a global leader in promoting health and wellness.
UAE-Indonesia Hospital
The first facility, the UAE-Indonesia Hospital for Cardiac Diseases in Central Java, is set to open in late 2024 and will provide comprehensive care for heart disease. Ischemic heart disease is the leading cause of death in Indonesia and the new 100-bed hospital will play a key role in providing in cardiac care to Indonesians, especially those in Central Java and the surrounding areas.
The hospitals will be sustainable in design and construction. They will be environmentally friendly, using renewable energy, energy efficient systems, and sustainable materials. This reduces the environmental impact and promotes long-term sustainability.
Beyond construction, the UAE will support ongoing hospital operations and maintenance. By collaborating with local governments and health authorities, the goal is to build sustainable healthcare systems, develop local expertise, create jobs, and improve overall healthcare in beneficiary countries.
The hospitals established through this initiative will bolster healthcare systems, equipping them to bridge crucial health access gaps effectively. The UAE-Indonesia Hospital for Cardiac Diseases will not only deliver specialised medical services but also stand as a model for future projects within this programme.

The UAE’s Global Hospitals Program is a significant step forward in global healthcare. By expanding access to quality care, prioritizing sustainability, and fostering international partnerships, the UAE is setting a new standard in health equity and philanthropy. These hospitals will have a profound impact on the health and well-being of countless patients, reinforcing the UAE’s reputation for compassion and innovation in healthcare.
